The petition to create the Tigard-Tualatin Aquatic District has been approved!

The Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the petition on January 5, 2010.  We're now moving forward with the May 18, 2010 election.

The Committee to Save the Tigard-Tualatin Pools is grateful to the many, many volunteers who attended meetings, collected signatures, and helped organize the activities that have brought us to this point. We're also grateful to the Tigard-Tualatin School District; the city councils of Tigard, Tualatin, Durham, King City, Portland, and Beaverton; and  the Washington County Commissioners and staff who worked so closely with us to make this happen. Without the support of all of these people, the pools would have been closed forever. This has truly been a community effort to save these well-loved community assets.

The Committee to Save Tigard-Tualatin Pools

The Tigard-Tualatin School District (TTSD) owns and operates both Tigard and Tualatin
swim centers. With the current budget deficit, TTSD can no longer afford to operate the pools.  Unless alternative funding is found, both swim centers will be permanently closed.

The Committee to Save Tigard-Tualatin Pools has stepped forward to preserve these valuable community resources, while also relieving the school district of a large, ongoing budget expense. Our goal is to develop an aquatic district and limited tax levy that will provide permanent, stable funding to keep both pools open for the community to enjoy for years to come.
